Description
Note: Ähnlich wie Bild D-30.22.012. (PST). Note translation: Similar to photo D-30.22.012. (PST). - Published as no 71 in the French version of the album 'Eighty pictures of the Gold Coast (West Africa) by the missionary Fritz Ramseyer', Neuchâtel 1895. - Caption there: "Someone printing on cloth. The Asantes have a special cloth for mourning called 'adenkra'. It is what you can see spread out along the low wall in our picture. It is a piece of rust-red cloth which they stretch out on the ground and on which, as the picture shows us, a printer prints all sorts of bizarre figures by means of shapes dipped in a black dye of his own fabrication."
