Title supplied by cataloger. The New Frontier was the second resort that opened on the Las Vegas Strip on October 30, 1942. In the 1950s and early 1960s the New Frontier went through a succession of owners and operators. In 1967 the resort was purchased for $14 million by businessman Howard Hughes, who shortened the name to The Frontier; in 1988 Margaret Elardi bought the hotel from the late Howard Hughes company; in 1998 developer Phil Ruffin bought the resort from Elardi and her two sons, at which point he changed the name back to The New Frontier; he, in turn, sold it to El Ad Properties. After 65 years of continuous operation, The New Frontier permanently shut its doors on July 16, 2007 although the lights from its sign were still lit at night up to its demolition, which occurred on November 13, 2007. Aerial view of the New Frontier Hotel, located at 3120 Las Vegas Boulevard South (vertically along the right), just south of Desert Inn Road (slightly diagonally from top right to upper left); view is looking south.
