Description
This 1895 photograph shows the storefront of Crystal Palace Pottery at 610 J St. The short-lived business started up at the time this photograph was taken, but never made it out of the 19th century, closing just a few years later. German-born Joseph Thieben was the manager of the concern and W.G. Barr was the owner. An annotation at the base of the photograph claims the Crystal Palace to be “the leading crockery house in Sacramento.” An additional etching states, “We have an art room connected with our store.” Prior to managing the Crystal Palace, Thieben owned a crockery store at 518 J St.
