Description
Plaited and twined basket with design of a "horse" on each side of basket done in dark brown. 2 bands of black, one near top and one near bottom, also 2 bands of light brown one near top and one near bottom. Has decorative edging attached to rim. Made by Skokomish Indians (Washington state) concerning the "horse" designs if the animal's tail points upwards, it is a horse but if the tail points downwards it is a dog or coyote. Since the animal depicted on this basket has a tail pointing upward, it is a horse.
