Shades of L.A. is an archive of photographs representing the contemporary and historic diversity of families in Los Angeles. Images were chosen from family albums and include daily life, social organizations, work, personal and holiday celebrations, and migration and immigration activities. At the Century Plaza Hotel, Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) director Salam Al-Marayati (left) presents an award to Spike Lee (center) for the positive portrayal of Muslims in his film, Malcom X. Casey Kasem, M.C. for the awards event, shares the celebratory moment with them.
