Description
Photograph of an automobile below a trestle of the old Central Pacific Railway Crossing near Highway Forty, 1936. The automobile is pictured just right of center, parked beside a narrow, unlined road. Slightly into the background, a railroad trestle runs above the road and perpendicular to it over a gentle slope through a wooded area at left. Tree foliage can be seen creeping in from the right edge of the image. The narrow road is identified as Highway Forty, between Emmigrant Gap and Spaulding Avenue. Highway Forty is one of the emigrant roads of the 1850's. Photoprint reads: "The rail roads built in the [?] 1860's".
