Photograph of Edward L. Doheny at the site dedication ceremony for his discovery oil, 1930. Doheny, wearing a straw hat, waving, and standing under a tall triangular wooden scaffold or derrick, discovered oil in 1892 near Second Street and Glendale Boulevard (south side of Court Street, east of Patton, 2½ blocks east of Glendale Boulevard), Los Angeles. A group of about twenty-five men clustered on the adjacent dirt road, look on. Doheny's discovery of oil was near Second Street and Glendale boulevard in 1892.
