Shades of L.A. is an archive of photographs representing the contemporary and historic diversity of families in Los Angeles. Images were chosen from family albums and include daily life, social organizations, work, personal and holiday celebrations, and migration and immigration activities. Title supplied by cataloger.; Image is a reproduction. Susan at the naval station in Cedar Falls, Iowa during her training. She was the first Korean American in the WAVES, the women's division of the U.S. Naval Reserve in the 1940's. She also went to Pensacola Gunnery School to become the first woman gunnery officer.
