Lubben and dated July 29, 1893; with four surrounding vignettes depicting firefighters fighting fires and driving towards burning buildings with horse-drawn firefighting vehicles including a hook and ladder truck, hose carriage, and manual fire engine, as well as a top-center vignette of Columbia, the goddess of Liberty, sitting in a field looking at a paper with a shield labeled "California," a bear, sheaths of wheat, and a fireman surrounding her; the vignettes and certificate are bordered by two hoses attached to a fire hydrant and firefighting equipment including ladders, preventers, axes, speaking trumpets, and fire hats; the certificate has an embossed seal of the Alameda Fire Department. Single-color print; date based on year certificate was issued. "R.H."--text, artist.'s initials, bottom left of image. "Schmidt Label & Litho. Co. S.F."--text, bottom right margin. "This is to certify that John G.
