Description
Karen A. Holden, right, an employee of Pacific Telephone Co., was sworn in as a first lieutenant in the California National Guard by Gen. Mildred Bailey, director of the Women's Army Corps, as Gen. Glenn C. Ames, commanding officer of the California National Guard, looked on. Ms. Holden, of Carmichael, became the first woman officer in the state Guard's history.
