Caption: Nevil Shute, author of the best-seller 'On the Beach,' left Los Angeles for Denver yesterday via United Airlines after conferring with producer-director Stanley Kramer on the latter's forthcoing film version of the controversial novel. It was the first Los Angeles visit by the British-born author and his wife, who have resided on a farm near Melbourne since 1950. Latest of 19 novels by the famed writer, a story that projects the end of the world in nuclear war in 1962, 'On the Beach' has been on the U.S. best-seller lists fro more than 40 weeks. Shute and his wife will visit Denver, Washington and New York before going to England, and will return to their home before filming begins. Kramer plans to start shooting on location in Australia late this year. ####".
