Description
Photograph of State Street in Santa Barbara looking north, California, ca.1905. Tall, three-story and lower buildings with gothic architecture line either side of the unpaved street. At right, a streetcar makes its way across its tracks, its rear sign reading "Mission". Pedestrians and horse-drawn carriages fill the road further in the distance, where the spires of what appears to be the scene's tallest building can be seen. Two men walk out of a shop near a bicycle that has been leaned up against the sidewalk, along which decorative hitching posts have be placed. A sign on the second floor of a building in the extreme left foreground reads "Joseph J. Perkins Attorney at Law". Utility poles make a net of streetcar cables above the street.
