Photograph caption dated November 21, 1953 reads "Guards Valley. Perched atop Sepulveda Dam in Van Nuys is powerful radar which, 24 hours a day, scans the skies to guard against sneak aerial attack. That's Capt. James E. Bearden, operations officer of 551st Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion, based at Birmingham Hospital. This equipment is nick-named An Tipsey Dog, takeoff of official designation, AN/TPS D."
