Description
1989-1299. In: [Scenes of Sacramento] [manuscript] / Eugene Walter Hepting. [Sacramento, Calif. : E. Hepting, 1938?], Vol. C, leaf 40. To the right in a grassy field stands a vertical monument; it stands on a low pedestal; a rectangular block of rough granite stands on the pedestal with a mounted metal plaque on its face; in the distance are more markers and bare, leafless trees in the background. Walter Hepting was born in Sacramento (father was from Switzerland, mother from Germany). Worked for the State Treasurer's Office. Was amateur historian, collected old photographs and images of Sacramento. "Cholera epidemic lasted about 6 weeks, about 600 were victims. Commenced Oct. 19th, 1850, last case reported Dec. 1st, 1850... On the 31st of October, 1850, 51 cases reported."
