Description
Photograph of a view of Mill Street in Grass Valley, Yerba County, ca.1930. Automobiles line the street along with the sidewalk which is shaded by porches and hanging signs of the surrounding shops. Western Auto has an electric sign hanging over the corner of the street on the left in the foreground and another sign under the porch. A large sign for Henry's Café extends from an electrical pole further down the left side of the street. On the right the lightly-colored stores are labeled by signs that hang from the porch. The stores crowd the street in the distance where a large truck drives towards the foreground. Picture file card reads "Looking down Mill Street with its old buildings and porches. All date from the last of the 1850's. (In 1855 the entire town was destroyed by fire. In recent years most of these old buildings have been modernized with plenty of stucco and paint".
