Description
This circa 1950 postcard shows Peter Slater's Saloon, set within Sutter's Fort, located at Twenty-Seventh and L Streets. Slater, a native of Independence, Missouri, was widower, and father of 9 children. According to historian Laura T. Collins, Slater, also referred to as “Parly” in Sacramento County real estate records, “made a fortune in the vending of drinks in this room—considering the price of fifty cents for a tablespoonful, $35.00 for a quart of brandy or whiskey.”
