Description
The first Valencia orange orchard in California was planted in 1880 by R.H. Gilman on the land of the Placentia Fruit Co., in what is today Orange County. View 1: Site marker dedicated to Gilman and the first Valencia orchard, by the Native Daughters of the Golden West. View 2: R.H. Gilman standing beside site marker. View 3: A toast to Gilman (with beard). View 4: Gilman (with beard) is honored at the ceremony for the site marker.
