On reverse: "Started in real estate 1862. Born Steuben, N.Y. April 25, 1825. Married Diana Serey (dies 1854). Came to Calif. 1852. In Santa Clara County. Elected to State Legislature, 1861. In 1862 he married Mary Brant. Was Notary Public, owned orchard. Children - 1st marriage: 2 daughters dies in childhood, 2nd marriage: Goldwin. Started first free Public Library in San Jose, 1854."
