Photograph caption dated November 7, 1947 reads, "Roy Eckelberry wants to go to jail, gets his wish." Nightwatchman Eckelberry, 45, turned himself in at the Alhambra police station with a batch of unopened letters that he said he stole from nine Alhambra mail boxes. Eckelberry claimed to have needed an operation and thought that the best way to get it done would be to get arrested.
