This chart shows the relative number and kinds of birds recovered from the asphalt of Rancho La Brea tar pits. Note that birds of prey and carrion feeders make up more than half of the total. Scientific names of the orders, with figures indicating the number of represented individuals of each, are given in the sectors of the small circle. The arrows point to illustrations of a few representative species of each order. The extinct species are marked with an asterisk. The original charts were prepared by David P. Willughby.
