Description
Photograph of a view of the east side of the Newhall Pass, ca.1926. There is a narrow dirt road making its way from the bottom right corner to center. It runs between tall peaks on both sides that are covered with low brush. A line of utility poles runs parallel to the road. The photo shows the canyon east side of the Divide where Fremont and his soldiers came through on the morning of January 10, 1847 and marched on to San Fernando where Captain Pedro Montenegro had his headquarters but he left before Fremont arrived. Here Fremont took possession and remained until January 13, 1847, when he and his men marched to Casa de Cahuenga where he signed the treaty with General Pico.
