Description
Title supplied by cataloger.
At 220 feet below sea level, the Salton Sea is an inland saline lake that covers a surface area of approximately 376 square miles. In the early 1800s, Salton Sea was mainly a salt mining location, in the 1920s it became somewhat of a tourist attraction due to its water recreation and the waterfowl that were attracted to this area.
Aerial view of the north coastal portion of the Salton Sea. Area looks almost completely barren, except for a small cluster of buildings on left side of the coast. Photographed for Ed Jorgenson on June 16, 1956.
