Original camera footage edited for broadcast for KNTV San Jose Channel 11 news. The accompanying script, read by the newscaster, provides details of the stories and completes the broadcast. Reel 1: Segment 1 (silent): Man and woman receive a phone as an award in their home, series of shots of men holding receiver to their ears and listening. Script reads, "For those of you that are statistically minded, there are now a half million telephones in Santa Clara County. A San Jose couple, John and Judy Oliver, received an engraved telephone to note them as the 500,000th subscribers for the service. They recently moved into a new home at 854 Midvale Lane off Almaden Road. A telephone workman made the final installation for the phone, then the first long distance call was made...to Vienna, Austria. Austrian Consul General Karl Weber started the ceremonial conversation off. Vienna will install its 500,000th telephone later this month. San Jose's Vice Mayor Ron James spoke with Vienna's mayor, and then the all too short conversation was terminated as homeowner Oliver sent his greetings overseas via satellite. Another indication of growth - the 500,000th telephone for Santa Clara County." Segment 2 (silent): Man holding frogs and talking, frogs hopping around the floor of an airport terminal, TWA employee holding a frog. Story reads, "Twenty green passengers hopped off an SFO helicopter in San Jose this afternoon...and the copter line cancelled their fare. The 20 frogs are a gift from the mayor of Frogtown, home of the famous Angles Camp Frog Jumping Contest at the Calaveras County Fair. The frogs met a local politician and the feeling was mutual. Councilman Robert Miller made the frogs official citizens of San Jose. Said Miller, 'They are definitely San Jose frogs...probably displaced by the freeways.' Lending a surer hand was Bill Camilleri of Andy's Pet Shop where the frogs will reside until they begin training. For these are athletic frogs..and may end up as San Jose's entry this august in the Calaveras County Frog Jump. Prospective frog trainers were invited to contact Andy's. To get them started on the right leg, Councilman Miller demonstrated some of the more advanced hopping techniques employed by Slew-Foot sue. She was last year's San Jose entry in the contest, but was disqualified because she had five leg. A nearby TWA ticket agent -- Judy Wright -- got her turn with the frogs...and the feeling was even more mutual." Segment 3 (sound): Danny Glines interviewed about becoming new San Jose State basketball head coach. Script reads, "San Jose State today named 32-year old Danny Glines the new head basketball coach...Glines has been an assistant to Stu Inman the past 6 years...I talked to Glines today, about his new position..." Segment 4 (sound): Bob Bronson endorsing Danny Glines. Script reads, "I also talked to SaAn Jose State Athletic Director Bob Bronson, about some of the factors involved in naming a new coach." Reel 2: Segment 1 (silent): Shots of crates stacked near waterfront, crates stacked on barges, Danger sign on chain link fence, man closing fence and locking it with chain. Story reads, "Last week, Channel 11 news presented first films of the controversial manufacture of napalm in Redwood City. At that time it was learned that the napalm bombs were being stored in Alviso. The report prompted complaints from residents that the storage area was unguarded and with opposition to napalm from pickets...they feared tampering with the bombs could cause a local disaster. The crates of napalm are stored on a spit of land near the Alviso Yacht Harbor. The area is completely surrounded by water, and any land access is blocked by a chain link fence an gate. A half dozen bares of the napalm have been shipped to Alviso from Redwood City in the last two weeks. None of the crates have been shipped out to Port Chicago en-route to Vietnam. Workers at the storage area say there has been no attempt to tamper with the napalm. Access roads to the site are well marked with 'No Trespassing' signs, and the main gate is kept locked to other than authorized traffic." Segment 2 (silent): Digger working by side of busy road, three young children covering their ears, police directing traffic. Script reads, "A ruptured gas line on the East Side this afternoon snarled traffic and sent an ear piercing roar through the neighborhood. The gas main on Story Road just east of the Bayshore Freeway, was punctured by a road grader owned by Leo F. Piazza Paving Company. The accident occurred during work on the new interchange. Police stopped all traffic in the area causing major traffic jams on nearby streets. A thin column of gas spewed into the air from the break in a two-inch riser, fed by an eight-inch high pressure main. For residents of the area the roar of the gas was like putting your head inside a jet engine at full blast. Firemen stood by as PG&E crews worked to repair the break." Segment 3 (sound): Jim Nissen speaks to camera with bookshelves in background. Script reads, "The Federal District Court in San Francisco has denied a request for a restraining order which would prevent Pacific Southwest Airlines from beginning operations at the San Jose Municipal Airport on May 18th. The court did, however, issue an order limiting PSA to the use of Electra jet aircraft for service to San Jose during the next 60 days. The reason for such a ruling, according to Judge Alphonso Zirpolic, is that the flight path of the 727 jet used by PSA is 12 miles beyond the shoreline, therefore making the aircraft an inter-state carrier. The Electra's flight path, on the other hand, is about 3 miles off shore, within the boundary of intra-state carriers. Pacific Airlines, currently the only major carrier serving San Jose, filed the request for a restraining order yesterday. PAL is attempting to block PSA's service to the local airport until it can put into service its own 727 jets. Pacific requested a rehearing on a recent public Utilities Commission decision to grant PSA the right to serve san Jose. that request was denied yesterday by the PUC. Late today Pacific also filed two actions with the State Supreme Court, request for a temporary stay of PSA service and a Writ of Revue. We asked the manager of San Jose Airport, Jim Nissen, what he thought would be the action of the State Supreme Court." Segment 4 (sound): Ronald Reagan interviewed about University of California's Berkeley campus, charges that there was an "orgy" on the campus, claims Berkeley has "lost sight of its primary purpose," and is an example of the "leadership gap in Sacramento." Script reads, "Ronald Reagan has demanded public legislative hearings on what he called 'charges of Communism, sexual misconduct and near anarchy on the campus of the University of California at Berkeley.' Reagan, campaigning for the Republican nomination for governor, delivered a stinging attack on the U.C. Berkeley administration and faculty and Democratic Governor Brown in a speech prepared for delivery tonight at a rally in the Cow Palace.
