Description
C.K. Bliss was born in Austria, where he became a research chemist. In 1936 he became interested in amateur movie-making and was deeply involved in a project at the time the Gestapo arrested him, on March 16, 1938. He was released from Buchenwald in April 1939 and fled first to England and then to Shanghai in late 1940, where he continued his interest in movies. Following the war, Bliss moved to Australia. This film shows a glimpse of life in the International Quarter of Shanghai--the beleaguered city--early in 1941, when the rest of the city was under Japanese occupation, but before Japan was at war with the Western powers.
