Description
Connie and Michael begin the interview discussing how, in the book, modern transport helicopters represent conquistadors, and the important discovery of a recently dead body alongside a mummy that is five hundred years old. They go on to talk about how Michael came up with the idea to write the novel after a trip to Peru, and how his narrative is based on a well-known myth about a lost Incan city. They proceed to discuss the destruction of Incan civilization by the Spanish conquistadors and human sacrifices in Incan practices before moving on to discuss how the book incorporates magical realism into its narrative. Michael then discusses his current reading list, and Connie closes the interview requesting an autograph for her copy of the book.
