Two angels kneeling before the Virgin Mary as part of a statue at a cemetery in Barbacoas. The statue is in a state of disrepair. Barbacoas is a city in Nariño Department, located northwest of San Juan de Pasto, the department capital. Prior to European colonization, the area was home to several Indigenous groups who practiced mining. Spaniard Francisco de Praga y Zúñiga entered the area as part of Spanish colonization efforts and founded the city in 1600, where it continued to be an important mining center for gold, silver, platinum, and coal. The city remains an important mining center for Colombia. Dos ángeles yacen arrodillados frente a la virgen María como parte de una estatua en un cementerio en Barbacoas. La estatua se encuentra severamente deteriorada. Barbacoas es una ciudad localizada en el departamento de Nariño, al noroeste de la capital departamental de San Juan de Pasto.
