Photograph caption dated June 4, 1959 reads, "Receives award--Dr. Mario De Lara, right, accepts Outstanding Citizen of the Year plaque from Charles Chapman, chairman of award committee of North Hollywood Community Coordinating Council which made presentation at installation dinner". Dr. Mario De Lara, a native of Havana, Cube, has been a Valley resident since 1946. He has served as Red Cross first aid instructor for seven years, Civil Defense deputy medical director for six years and board member of the San Fernando Valley Association for the Physically Handicapped and the Lowman School. De Lara was former president of the North Hollywood Optimist Club, an honorary member of the Studio City Optimist Club, and a former member of the Encino and Studio City Rotary Clubs.
