Description
The photo caption printed in the Sacramento Bee on June 21, 1974 states: "When Gridley held a civic function in the early days of this century, such as the 1919 Armistice Day celebration, above, most of the townspeople turned out for the assembly on Hazel Street. The Butte County town was founded in 1870 when the California and Oregon Railroad laid its rails through the Sacramento Valley. . . . "
