Description
Photograph taken in 1931 captures the football team at Sacramento High School (2315 Thirty-fourth Street). In the front row, third from left is Frank Boterro (later an attorney), fifth from the right is Bill Sims, later an all-American at Stanford University, and eighth from left, Lamby Theodoratus. In the middle row, fourth from left is Mannie Salva. In the top row, wearing a necktie is Coach Hap Applequist. The Dragons won but one game in 1931, a 12 to 9 blanking of Modesto High School. In a season-opening 26 to 0 loss to Lodi High School, the SHS travelled over 1,000 supporters to the road game. One of Lodi's touchdowns was scored by future wine magnate, Robert Mondavi.
