Description
Photo--black and white: Luther Burbank's cottage at Gold Ridge Experiment Farm in Sebastopol. Vines cover under the eaves of side porch and a huge birch tree is to the right of the front steps. A vintage Ford circa 1920s is parked to the right of the birch tree. After Luther died in 1926, Mrs. Burbank established an apple orchard on a portion of the Farm and leased the rest to Stark Bros. Nursery. Burbank lived in Santa Rosa but used this cottage in Sebastopol as an office and workshop where the botanist kept detailed records of his extensive plant experiments on his 18 acre farm which he had purchased in 1885. The cottage was destroyed in the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake and was rebuilt by Burbank in 1907. ,
