This circa 1990 postcard shows Thomas Hill's "Great Canyon of the Sierra," which gained the prestigious New York Pallette AClub medal. E.B. and Margaret Crocker purchased the painting in 1873, then hanging it on the south wall of what would become the E.B. Crocker Art Gallery at Second and O streets. The English-born Hill came to California in 1861, opening a studio in San Francisco in the same year.
