Description
V1p265c In PHOTO ALBUM-VAULT: ** fc917.9461 A3, Vol. I, page 265 center right. This photograph is contained in one of two volumes by Dobbin titled "Album of San Francisco." Text written under photo: "Reading paper "on how to boil water without burning it." Photo shows a line of female recruits sitting and reading what is probably an instruction paper. Two men are seen on the porch of the building in the background. Soldierettes were at the Presidio attending National Service School, a program set up by the Women's Section of the Navy League to increase the preparedness of women for war. The course included first aid, elementary hygiene, home care of the sick, marching and drilling. Students were being trained to support the Armed Forces.
