Description
Thomas Foon Chu, Sr., operated the Bayside Canning Company at Alviso and another plant near Isleton on the Sacramento River. In 1929 he also had extensive land holdings in the Santa Clara and Sacramento valleys and was reportedly one of the wealthiest Chinese in California. The Alviso cannery was reportedly founded around the turn of the century and the old office still stands (relocated) at 907 Elizabeth Street.
