Jesse Donald "Don" Knotts was born on July 21, 1924 in Morgantown, West Virginia. He was a comedian best known as Barney Fife on the 1960s television sitcom "The Andy Griffith Show." He won five Emmy Awards for this role. He also played Ralph Furley, landlord on the television sitcom "Three's Company." Knotts also starred in feature films and was a frequent guest on other television programs. He died on February 24, 2006.
Photograph caption dated May 17, 1961 reads "'Oh boy, he said.'" Knotts accepted an Emmy Award for Series Supporting Actor. The 13th Emmy Awards ceremony was held at The Moulin Rouge Nightclub in Hollywood.
