Used in the Exhibit: Play by Play - A Century of L.A. Sports Photography, 1889-1989 Don Jordan was raised in East L.A., one of 22 children. Trained by the legendary Eddie Futch, he became welterweight champ in 1958 and seemed to have a limitless future. But the "Geronimo Kid" was undone by allegations that the Mob controlled him. Jordan denied the charges, but his career never recovered; in a related trial, Mobsters Frankie Carbo (known as "Mr. Gray") and Frank "Blinky" Palermo were found guilty of conspiracy and extortion, signaling an end to an era in boxing. Jordan was found murdered in L.A. in 1997. Photo dated: October 12, 1962.
