Description
Sacramento physician Dr. Gregory W. Phelan, born in New York in 1822, is pictured in 1880. Phelan came to Sacramento in 1849 as part of the Gold Rush and soon started a medical practice that he would operate until 1870. Phelan lived on 10th Street between G and H streets, where he pursued an interest in trees, along with chartering, organizing and maintaining professional societies. He was a founding member of the Sacramento Society of California Pioneers.
