PhotographÂ was edited for publication purposes; Title supplied by cataloger. Pierre Salinger was born on June 14, 1925. He served as White House Press Secretary to Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson. Salinger served as a United States Senator in 1964 from August to December after the death of Clair Engle. He was defeated by Republican George Murphy for the Senate seat in November 1964. Salinger was manager for the Robert F. Kennedy presidential campaign and later became known for his work as an ABC News correspondent. He died on October 16, 2004. Photograph caption dated June 3, 1964 reads "Pierre Salinger, (center) after winning the Democratic U.S. Senate nomination, with actors Paul Picerni (left) and Robert Vaughn." Salinger celebrated his victory at the Ambassador Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles.
