Photograph of Troop "F" of the Kansas Sixth Cavalry stands on and in front of a huge felled tree "the fallen monarch" in a Mariposa grove, Yosemite National Park, ca.1900. There are more than 50 men and horses in the group. The massive tangle of roots (standing about 20 feet high) from the trunk dominate the right foreground.
