Description
Aimee Liu discusses her novel, “Flash House.” She begins by explaining how a ‘flash house’ is another name used for a house of prostitution. The story centers in New Delhi, where a young woman is helping girls get out of the prostitution business in the red light district. She talks about character development within her story and how a news correspondent mysteriously goes missing. Liu mentions that it took her 5 years to write this book, and that the characters in the novel are loosely based on her family’s experiences living in India. Martinson asks Liu to read the opening passage from the book about a woman who was saved from female slavery as a child. She ends the interview by talking about writers who have been imprisoned for their political views.
