Experiment to illustrate retention of vitality in seed of Bishop pine, (Pinus muricata). Seedlings one year old. Beginning at the foreground, and separated by the stakes, the seed varies from just mature to 15 years retained in the cone. The last row in the seed-bed was the seed 4 years old. Otherwise the planting is in serial progression. November, 1917
