Description
Photograph of the first Los Angeles High School on North Broadway and Temple Street being moved to Sands Street, ca.1888. The two-story complex stands elevated to almost twice its height by scaffolding at center, the hour and minute hands of its clock tower apparently removed. Underneath, a streetcar remains in operation, navigating the unpaved street along with some pedestrians. To the left, the Clifton House is visible, a two story Victorian structure with a balcony and a front stairway down which several men are descending. More houses are visible in the background to the right.
