Georg Schmidt (1709-1785), born in Kunewalde, was a missionary of the Herrnhuter Brüdergemeine in South Africa from 1737-1744. He served in Söte Mecks Valley and Sergeant Revier (Baviaanskloof, i.e. Genadendal). In 1744 he went back to Europe and two years later he married Maria Wahovsky[?] in Herrnhaag. He died in Niesky, Germany. -- A similar photograph can be found under record number 13302.
