Photograph was edited for publication purposes Photograph caption dated May 28, 1962 partially reads, "Calabash 6th grader Diana Thompson makes acquaintance of wiggling newts." The article partially reads, "Scene: Clear Creek Camp, about 4,000 feet high in the Angeles National Forest and 10 miles north of La Canada, owned and operated by the Los Angeles city schools since 1925. Perched atop a mountain overlooking Clear Creek canyon, the complex of two dormitories, lodge-museum, staff quarters and dining room-kitchens houses one sixth grade class each week throughout the school year. 'Our classroom is the out-of-doors itself,' explains Ernie White, Clear Creek's director for 12 years. 'In reality, we are an outdoor school, and not a camp. We teach natural science and conservation education."; See images #00131853 through #00131854 for all photos in this series.
