Description
Photograph of Fifth Street looking east from Grand Avenue, ca.1888-1895. Hazard's Pavilion is visible. This was later the site of the Biltmore Hotel. Additionally, the Laurence house, Boys' School, Caswell house, and City Water Company can be seen. Very few vehicles can be seen on any of the streets, except in the extreme background at left. The spires of a few churches stick up above the cityscape which is principally residential. Several of the homes show Victorian architecture. . Legible signs include: ..."ries", "J.U. Tabor's Carriage Works", "Hotel Fremont", and "Park House".
