Description
Photograph shows Flashlight, taken at night by the Deer. This was reputedly the first picture taken of an animal at night in which the animal itself triggered the camera. It was written up in several photographic and scientific publications in the 1890s. Note: There are two slightly different negatives in the envelope for this number - one is a good copy of a good recent print taken from Charles Hughes original glass plate negative - it is however broken at the upper corners. The other negative is a copy of a somewhat faded original print made by Charles Hughes from the same negative but before the corners were broken off. [Similar to sc5645 and sc5646].
