Images were chosen from family albums and include daily life, social organizations, work, personal and holiday celebrations, and migration and immigration activities. Helen Gahagan was a successful Broadway performer who, in 1931, married actor Melvyn Douglas. Elected in 1944, Gahagan Douglas was the third woman elected to Congress from California.
