Description
The Deep Gulch dumping area was at the bottom of Mine Hill. The Main Planilla and the houses of Spanishtown sit above the gulch. Photo mounted on board. On back of board: Handwritten in blue ink: "Deep Gulch (Spanish Camp & Planilla) showing ore chute, & incline. (The Hill, New Almaden, Calif.) from Mrs. J.R. Bailey (Leoline Hopkins), New Almaden school teacher in the 1880's." Typewritten label at bottom right corner: "Deep Gulch Bulmore Collection." Stamped in ink: "Laurence E. Bulmore 1831 San Pedro Berkeley, California." Schneider dates this image in 1887 (p56).
