Group photograph on stage in Manzanar Auditorium of 51 people, male and female, ranging in age from a young girl to elderly men and women. Some are in traditional Japanese costumes, two girls are in white sailor suits, and some are wearing regular daily clothes. In the center of the photo is one young man in an army uniform. Behind the people on the stage appears to be a painted backdrop for a production with a building, tree, and flowers. The caption reads: Auditorium Stage Program: Mr. Fred Y Miyake in the 3rd row next to platform. Kineya Osho-san 5th from right on platform. Donated by Ken Miyake. Photo from: "Photographs donated by Ken Miyake" panel created by Shiro "Shi" Nomura (ecm_nom_1300). The Eastern California Museum Object ID for this item is 1994.85.1c. A collection of panel collages created by Shiro and Mary Nomura, both of whom were incarcerated at Manzanar from 1942-1945, for the Eastern California Museum's Manzanar Project. The panels are comprised of photographs, artifacts, documents, and stories collected by "Shi" starting in the 1970s. Over the following 20 years, the Nomuras assembled more than 75 panels depicting their personal interpretation of Manzanar 'camp' life, major events, history, and site preservation efforts. In each panel Shi and Mary provide valuable first-person documentation from their experiences. These panels have been displayed at various community events, annual Manzanar Pilgrimages, and the Eastern California Museum (the permanent home of the collection).
