Description
Photograph was edited for publication purposes.
San Fernando Valley State College is now California State University Northridge.
Photograph caption dated February 22, 1962 reads "Mrs. Roy Slater, Delmar Oviatt at PTA meet." The two were answering charges from Sepulveda housewife Emily Philips. Philips claims that certain educational, welfare and PTA leaders are engaging in efforts to impose thought control on Valley students and parents and that certain Los Angeles public school texts are socialist. Oviatt, Valley State College Dean, and Slater, PTA leader, denied the claims.
