Description
Coin silver ceremonial trowel, Old San Francisco City Hall 1872. Reverse: Silver coin trowel with a vintage incised decorated border, the blade centered by a detailed rendering of the first San Francisco City Hall and Law Offices, a foliate form mount in Neo-Greco style leaf; the walrus ivory baluster turned handle, rope twist collar and scrimshaw depicting the Seal of San Francisco and further tipped with a silver foliate finial. Reverse: engraved: "Presented to the M.W. Leonidas Pratt, Grand Master of Masons in California by the City of San Francisco at the Laying of the Corner Stone of Its New City Hall and Law Courts 22 February A.L. 5872 " The San Francisco City Hall built in 1872 took 27 years to complete and, in 1906, 28 seconds to destroy.
